The Maldives government on Saturday has awarded three parties to develop police stations in 75 islands.
The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology in a statement confirmed the launch of a special initiative as the per instructions of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in ensuring safer, crime-less communities.
The initiative, according to the ministry’s statement, involves the development of additional infrastructure for the Maldives Police Service under which the government contracted three contractors for the development of these police stations. The contracts were awarded and signed on Thursday, last week.
Government awarded the development of these police stations to MTCC, Fenaka Corporation, and RDC.
Under the initiative, the state has contracted Fenaka Corporation for the development of police stations in 40 islands. Under the same initiative, RDC will develop police stations in 20 other islands, and MTCC will develop stations in the remaining 15 islands.
The ministry confirms all of these projects will commence sometime this year.
While Maldives Police Service have 17 centers, at the time when the current administration came to power, a total of 70 local islands lacked any police infrastructure.
