Finance Ministry has publicized the changes to civil servants’ salaries, which is set to come into effect starting in November.
The job matrices publicized by the Finance Ministry provide details of the changes to salaries of civil servants working across various sectors. They include:
The job matrices detail the pay structure based on job classifications, public service ranks, licenses and professional training requirements, educational qualification and experience requirements such as main responsibilities.
The changes to the salaries come under the pay harmonization initiative – phased efforts to create a unified and equitable salary structure across various public sector departments, including the civil service, judiciary, police, and defense forces – was launched during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.
These efforts have seen the salaries increased for nurses, educators, and security services personnel.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the salaries of remaining civil servants, as well as judicial staff, and council staff, will be increased starting November 1st, back in September.
MVR 500 million was allocated in this year’s budget for pay harmonization, which Finance Minister Moosa Zameer said in October 2024 would go into increasing the salaries of the rest of the civil servants and judicial staff.
