Hulhumale’ lagoon to be patrolled 24 hours to combat drug transport

Maldives Police Service’s Drug Enforcement Department (DED) and Marine Police are set to collaborate on patrolling Hulhumale’ lagoon 24 hours in order to combat the transport of drugs and alcohol.

Police, in a statement on Thursday, said the decision was taken at a meeting that Central Policing Command, Operations Support Command and senior DED officers held with the Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau yesterday, at Shaheed Hussain Adam Building.

Police said it was also decided during Wednesday’s meeting that the authority will further strengthen the patrol with respect to goods loaded and unloaded from vessels departing and arriving at islands.

Furthermore, as per the statement, discussions also took place on managing the traffic flow in Male’ City. In this trajectory, it was decided that more police officers would be stationed in Male’ streets to manage the traffic flow, especially in areas frequented by the public, to effectively ensure public safety and protection. 

These decisions will be enforced starting Sunday, the Police added.
