Maldives and Saudi Arabia have held discussions on organising an annual international-level regional Quran competition in the Maldives.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, held at the latter’s special invitation.

According to the Islamic Ministry, the meeting focused on ways to further promote Islam in the Maldives and strengthen religious cooperation between the two countries. Minister Shaheem requested support to host an international Quran competition in the Maldives and expressed gratitude to the Saudi government, particularly the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for their continued warmth and assistance to the Maldives.

Minister Shaheem said he hopes that during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure, relations between the Islamic Ministries of both countries will be further strengthened, with expanded cooperation in religious affairs and Hajj arrangements.

Maldives and Saudi Arabia, which established diplomatic relations in 1981, maintain close religious and financial ties.
