A Malaysian woman arrested with more than two kilograms of drugs in Maldives has been remanded in custody pending trial.
Two Maldivian men were arrested along with the woman in connection with the two‑kilo drug haul. All three were taken into custody on 28 February 2026 in a police operation.
The woman has been identified as Ranjini Jeevananthan, 38, a Malaysian national. The two Maldivian suspects are Ahmed Rishmah, 21, of Sunlight Villa, GA. Dhaandhoo, and Looth Ibrahim, 29, of Furusathu, GDh. Vaadhoo.
Ranjini was remanded to custody without a specified duration on Saturday.
Of the three suspects, Ranjini was arrested at Velana International Airport.
According to the previous court report, Ranjini told the court that the package, which contained more than two kilograms of drugs, had been given to her by a friend to transport, and that she had travelled to Maldives at the friend’s request. She said someone in Malé was supposed to collect the package. The remand order also noted that she had travelled to Maldives for only three days.
The earlier arrest warrant also quoted Looth as saying he had gone to receive the package at the request of a friend in jail.
