A man was arrested on Saturday after police found 25 rubber packets of suspected drugs inside the sack he had his hand in.
The arrest was made in connection with the case of Shinam Ibrahim, 36, Vaadheege/GA. Gemanafushi, who was taken into custody on suspicion of drug trafficking.
According to the Criminal Court order, Shinam was remanded after investigators presented sufficient evidence against him.
Police officers who attended the scene stated that they found Shinam holding a sack. When they searched it, they recovered 13 rubber packets containing suspected drugs and another 12 rubber packets from the same sack.
In addition, his interim urine test results showed positive readings for AMP, benzo, opioids and CAT, according to the remand order.
The Criminal Court remanded Shinam in custody for 15 days. The remand began on Saturday and will expire on Thursday, September 6.
Drug cases of this nature have become increasingly common recently, with small rubber packets being widely used for the sale and trafficking of narcotics.
