Man arrested for selling alcohol out of Male’ shop

Police have made an arrest in connection to the storage and wide-scale distribution of narcotics out of a shop in Male’ City.

A police spokesperson said Thursday that the arrest was made in a joint operation by Drug Intelligence and the Drug Enforcement Department following intel of an alcohol operation in a shop in Male’.

The police identified the suspect arrested in the case as a 45-year-old Maldivian male.

Police said that during the search of the shop, owned by the suspect, originally from the Hulhudhoo district of Addu City, the DED found 69 bottles of alcohol, two bottles containing what is believed to be alcohol, a film cannister containing a substance believed to be drugs, and two packets containing what is believed to be party drugs.

The suspect was presented before the Criminal Court for his remand hearing on Wednesday. The court remanded the suspect to custody of police for five days, after he requested for his remand hearings to be held with a lawyer.

The case is under investigation by the DED.
