Maldives Police Service has arrested two foreigners from Hulhumalé on suspicion of possession, consumption, and illegal sale of alcohol.
The Police have identified the suspects as Bangladeshi nationals: 31-year-old Al-Nooman and 20-year-old Rakeeb-ul Hassan Pappoon.
The arrests were made during a targeted operation conducted following intelligence reports related to a suspected illegal alcohol trade.
During the operation carried out on Friday by Hulhumalé Phase 1 Police, the apartment where the suspects were residing was searched, leading to the seizure of 15 alcohol bottles.
Upon being produced before the court for a remand hearing, Al-Nooman was remanded in custody for five days, while Rakibul Hassan Papoon was remanded in custody for 10 days.
The Police have confirmed that the case is under further investigation.
