Islamic Ministry has contracted Afami Maldives to build a mosque in N. Manadhoo, which will have the capacity to accommodate 700 people.

The agreement for the project was signed by Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali and Afami Maldives’ Managing Director Ameen Mohamed on Wednesday.

Islamic Ministry states the project is valued at MVR 15.7 million.

Islamic Ministry said that the decision to build a new mosque in Manadhoo was made to the shortage of capacity at the current mosque in the island, and the lack of mosque in the newly populated area of the island.

Afami Maldives is contracted to complete the project within one year.

Islamic Ministry said the new mosque will have a separate pray area for women, toilets, an area for wudu, a store room, and a minaret.

Islamic Ministry said that the mosque’s air conditioning system will be powered with renewable energy.
