Islamic Ministry said on Saturday that the ministry is aware of efforts to propagate the religion of Christianity in Maldives, and that measures are being taken in collaboration with the police to stop such efforts.

Videos on Christianity dubbed in Dhivehi language have been circulating on various social media platforms for about a year. Such videos are being shared on Facebook, YouTube, Dailymotion and TikTok channels, as well as on IOS and Android applications.

When questioned regarding the issue, Islamic Ministry’s spokesperson Ismail Afrah told Sun on Saturday morning that the ministry has been working in collaboration with the police to stop the project since 2019.

When asked regarding lack of progress in stopping the efforts, Afrah said that only police could answer that question.

“We discussed the issue with Commissioner of Police himself. We are engaged in efforts in collaboration with the police to stop this,” he said.

When questioned regarding the issue, the police spokesperson such issues are being investigated and taken action against. He did not go into detail.

Maldives police have blocked several social media pages in connection to various crimes in the past, but have yet to block any of the pages propagating Christianity.
