Renowned religious scholar, Sheikh Fareed passes

Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed, a renowned local religious scholar known for his contributions in religious awareness, has passed away on Monday.

Sun Online learned Sheikh Fareed passed away at a Malaysian airport, not long after he had arrived in the country.

Prior to his demise, it had not been confirmed the scholar had been terminally ill or not.

The Sheikh has contributed significantly towards the awareness of the Islamic faith among Maldivian citizens. He also has continued to spread religious messages through social media platforms.

His most recent video was posted on the day of Arafat.

Sheikh Fareed is also a notable figure in the democratic reform movement in the Maldives that saw the introduction of a multi-party system in the country.
