All care packages sent to Lanka, India delivered to families

Foreign Ministry, on Saturday, said that all care packages sent to Maldivian nationals in Sri Lanka and India have now been delivered.

According to Foreign Ministry, 622 care packages were sent to Maldivian nationals in Sri Lanka.

Maldivian nationals in Colombo were delivered their care packages last week, and officials from the Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka finished delivering the last of the care packages to Maldivian nationals who reside outside of Colombo this Saturday.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Umar Abdul Razzaq had personally gone to deliver packages to those in cities outside of Colombo.

Meanwhile, the 144 care packages sent to Maldivian nationals in the Indian cities Trivandrum and Cochin have also been delivered.

452 care packages were sent to Malaysia. The Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia has delivered packages sent by families to Maldivian nationals in Kuala Lumpur, and is now working on delivering packages to 14 families who reside outside of Kuala Lumpur.

The packages to the Thai capital Bangkok were sent just ahead of the weekend. Foreign Ministry says the care packages will be cleared from Customs after the weekend, and delivered within the week.

While Foreign Ministry had also opened the opportunity for care packages to be sent to Maldivian nationals in the United Arab Emirates, the facilitation of the packages was halted following the lockdown on Male’ City.

Foreign Ministry has noted that the cities where the packages were being delivered were under lockdown, resulting numerous logistical difficulties in delivering the packages in due speed.

The packages are being delivered by securing a special permit from the respective foreign governments.

Foreign Ministry, is facilitating the delivery of care packages to Maldivian nationals overseas in collaboration with the national airline Maldivian, onboard its cargo and repatriation flights.
