The Maldives government has strongly condemned the recent ballistic missile attacks targeting civilian areas in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the government said the strikes on civilian sites and resources were a “blatant violation” of Saudi Arabia’s independence and sovereignty, and a serious threat to the security and stability of the wider region.

The Maldives reaffirmed its firm solidarity with the Government and people of Saudi Arabia, assuring full support for all measures taken to defend the kingdom’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

The statement also underscored the importance of preserving recent regional progress, preventing further escalation, and prioritising sustained dialogue and diplomacy to maintain peace and stability.

The condemnation comes after Yemen’s Houthi group used drones and missiles to attack Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia early Monday. The strike followed hours after attacks targeted Sanaa International Airport in Yemen’s capital. According to the Associated Press, no casualties were reported.

The incident marks one of the most significant flare-ups between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia after several years of relative calm.

A large number of Maldivians continue to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, and authorities have confirmed that flights between Maldives and Saudi Arabia remain unaffected.
