Bus driver involved in fatal accident remanded to 3 days

Criminal Court has remanded the bus driver involved in the fatal accident in Hulhumale’ to three days in jail.

The bus driver, an employee of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), had been on duty driving a bus within Hulhumale’ when he dozed off behind the wheels and ran over a female pedestrian – identified as a 31-year-old Ukrainian tourist.

The accident took place at approximately 6:37 am in front of the Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) fuel shed located in Hulhumale’.

There were a handful of passengers on board the bus at the time, none of whom sustained any injuries.

The bus driver – identified as a Maldivian male in possession of a valid bus driving license – was taken immediately into the custody of police.

He was transported to Male’ City for his remand hearing at Criminal Court this Tuesday.

Maldives Police Service confirms the court has remanded the driver to three days at a detention facility.
