Explosion inside Shell Beans Bakery; 3 injured

An explosion took place inside the Shell Beans Bakery located at H. Parkside in Male’ City this Saturday morning, leaving three people injured.

Those injured in the explosion have been identified as one Maldivian and two foreigners.

According to Maldives Police Service, the Maldivian injured in the incident was asleep in the building next door, and the two foreigners were inside the bakery.

It said the investigation so far pointed to the explosion being a result of a gas leak.

Maldives National Defense Force says the incident was reported to the authority at 6:18 am.

“Sun” has been informed one of the foreign workers is in critical condition, and has burns on 30 percent of his body.

The ground floor and first floor of H. Parkside suffered extensive damage in the explosion, with glass from the windows flying onto the street.

The incident is being investigated by the authorities.
