CCTV shows motorcycle collided with pedestrian crossing to board taxi in Phase 2

Police have provided further details regarding the dangerous accident that occurred in Hulhumale' Phase II on Saturday evening, stating that the collision happened when a motorcycle struck a pedestrian who was attempting to board a taxi parked on the side of the road.

The incident was reported at 21:04 pm near Vinares 7, Hithigas Magu, Hulhumale’ Phase II.

According to police, CCTV footage from the area shows a motorcycle travelling along Hithigas Magu colliding with a pedestrian who was crossing the road to board a car parked near Vinares 7.

An 18-year-old woman and a nine-year-old girl, who were on the motorcycle, were injured in the accident. Both are being treated at Hulhumale' Hospital, and the nine-year-old is in critical condition, police said, citing hospital information.

Police said the motorcycle was being driven by a person with a valid road vehicle driving licence.

Videos circulating on social media show a taxi stopped in the motorcycle lane, with a motorcycle fallen in front of it and pools of blood behind the bike. The footage also shows the unconscious child’s head bleeding as bystanders call for help.

Police said the case is under investigation.
