The Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has opened entries for the first-ever “MIB Guesthouse Awards 2026” on Tuesday.

According to MIB, guesthouses can apply in eight main categories.

The eight categories are:

  • Service Excellence and Hospitality – For guesthouses that provide the highest level of hospitality and service.
  • Authentic Maldivian Experience – For guesthouses that showcase Maldivian culture, food and customs.
  • Island Excursions and Experiences – For guesthouses offering safe and comprehensive beach activities and sightseeing services.
  • Culinary Experience – For guesthouses providing excellent catering services and local flavours.
  • Eco-Friendly Award – For guesthouses prioritizing environmental protection, waste reduction and energy efficiency.
  • Community Impact Award – For guesthouses contributing to social and economic development and creating employment opportunities in their island communities.
  • Digital Presence Award – For guesthouses that excel in promoting their business through social media and digital tools.
  • Iconic Marine and Dive Experience Award – For guesthouses offering safe and environmentally responsible underwater and diving experiences.

MIB states that the awards will be judged in a two-sided manner, based on evidence and documentation submitted. To ensure fair competition, the bank has divided guesthouses into two tiers based on room count.

Tier One includes small guesthouses with three to ten rooms.

Tier Two includes guesthouses with eleven rooms and above.

More information is available on the MIB website, and applications can be submitted through a dedicated online portal.
