Four arrested with drugs in raids on five apartments in Male’, Hulhumale’

Four men were arrested in a joint operation carried out by Maldives Police Service’s Drug Enforcement Department (DED) and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence, which saw raids on five apartments in Malé and Hulhumalé.

According to Police, the operation conducted on Monday led to the arrest of Ahmed Jinah, 43, Mutheehouse, Th. Thimarafushi, Ahmed Saeed, 28, Saimaage, HA. Hoarafushi, Mohamed Anoof, Houseton, GDh. Madaveli, and Ahmed Maeesh, 28, Anbumaage, GDh. Hoadedhdhoo.

All four men were arrested under court orders on allegations related to drug possession, use, and trafficking.

When the suspects were presented before the court following their arrests, Ahmed Jinah and Saeed were remanded in custody for 15 days, while Anoof and Maeesh were remanded in custody for five days. 

The Police seized approximately 100.09 grams of substances suspected to be narcotics during the raid on the five apartments.

The case is under further investigation.

Drugs remain one of the biggest social issues in the Maldives. In a separate incident last Sunday, the Police foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs into Maafushi Prison using a drone. During the operation, officers seized five rubber packets containing substances suspected to be narcotics, with a preliminary total weight of 395.92 grams.
