Maldives Customs Service has seized more than three kilograms of drugs hidden inside a package brought into the country by post.
Customs said officers searched a postal package on Saturday after suspecting it contained drugs. Further investigation revealed 3,207 grams of cannabis concealed inside the parcel.
This is the second postal drug package seized by Customs on Saturday. The first package intercepted that day also contained more than three kilograms of drugs.
A large number of drug-smuggling attempts have been reported in recent years, with suspects arrested and sentenced in many cases.
Customs has previously stated that all postal packages entering Maldives are scanned, and suspicious parcels are set aside for thorough checks.
