Saudi Shura Council chair Al-Sheikh arrives in the Maldives on official visit

Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, the chairman of the Shura Council of Saudi Arabia, arrived in the Maldives on Monday on an official visit.

Al-Sheikh is leading a five-member delegation from the Shura Council, who were invited to visit the Maldives by Maldives’ Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

The rest of the delegation is composed of:

  • Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Mubarak
  • Engineer Mahdi bin Nasser Al-Dosari
  • Dr. Lulwah bint Abdulghaffar Fada
  • Dr. Dalal bint Mohiuddin Manafani

In a statement on Monday, Al-Sheikh described the visit as one that “reflects the strong bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Maldives, and demonstrates the commitment of the leaderships of both countries to enhancing coordination and continuous consultation in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two brotherly nations.”

He emphasized that the ties between the two countries are founded on the spirit of Islamic brotherhood and bilateral cooperation.

Al-Sheikh also highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, stressing that it serves as an effective bridge for strengthening understanding, bringing viewpoints closer together, and supporting areas of joint cooperation through activating friendship committees and parliamentary collaboration.

He expressed confidence that the visit would provide new momentum to parliamentary relations between the Shura Council and the Parliament of the Republic of Maldives, contributing to the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries and peoples across various fields.

During the visit, Al-Sheikh is scheduled for official talks with Abdul Raheem, and also meetings with senior Maldivian government officials.
