MNDF Fire and Rescue at the scene of a fire at a local cafe: An individual has sustained minor injuries in a gas cylinder explosion at a home in Male' City.
A person has sustained minor injuries in an explosion prompted by a gas leak while attempting to light a stove at a home in Male’.
The incident took place at a house on Filigas Magu in Henveiru district. Authorities confirmed that one person was injured in the explosion, adding that the injuries, however, were not serious with the person in stable condition.
According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the explosion occurred due to a pressure buildup caused when a stove was lit without realizing that gas had leaked and accumulated in a poorly ventilated area.
The explosion shattered a glass window, scattering shards across the street.
"There was no fire anywhere; the glass shattered due to the sound,” an MNDF media official confirmed.
Incidents involving gas leaks in kitchens are relatively common in the Maldives. In previous cases, similar leaks have resulted in more serious fires, endangering people and causing significant damage to property.
