The family of the youth injured in the accident between a police car and a motorbike in Hulhumale’ Phase II on December 27th states he is still in a coma.
The accident took place at around 01:45am on Friday, December 27th at the junction of Nirolhu Magu and Gulalmaa Magu.
Shaiman Shihaam, who was 18 years old then and 19 years old now, is currently being treated India’s Amritha Hospital as his condition remains serious.
Before he was flown to India, he was treated at Hulhumale’ Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Speaking with Sun on Sunday, Shaiman’s father, Ibrahim Shihaam, said Shaiman still remains in a coma while April 27th would mark four months since the accident. Citing doctors, Shihaam said Shaiman’s hands and legs are in good condition he is administered physiotherapy. According to the doctors, victims of such accidents would take a year or two to fully recover.
According to Shihaam, the family has not received any assistance from the government apart from Aasandha. The Police have not provided any assistance since the accident either, he added.
Shihaam, noting he has been employed in a uniformed job for 33 years, states he is caring for his son while on no-pay leave.
He further said the party at fault with respect to the accident still remains unclear as the investigation is still ongoing.
According to the police, a police patrol car had been heading from east to west along the Gulalmaa Magu and crossing the Nirolhu Magu when it crashed with a motorcycle, which the police said had been speeding along the Nirolhu Magu.
Police said the driver of the motorbike had his license suspended after being stopped for a traffic violation on December 21st. Shaiman’s family has denied the claim.
