Five arrested for attacking man in Thimarafushi home

Five people have been arrested for attacking someone after breaking into a home in Th. Thimarafushi.

The incident was reported to the police at around 01:27 pm Saturday.

The police initially reported that it had responded to an incident in Thimarafushi involving a person who was stabbed with a sharp-edged weapon in a fight between two groups of people.

But the police later said that it involved five people who barged into a home in Thimarafushi and engaged in violence.

In a press statement on Sunday, the police said that five people had been arrested under court warrants. They are:

  • Ahmed Shahudhee, 38, Salva, Th. Thimarafushi
  • Ahmed Ameen, 36, Jahaamugurige, Th. Thimarafushi
  • Mohamed Rauf, 54, V. Vavaiy, K. Male'
  • Abdulla Ashraf, 39, Gulbakaa Villa, Th. Thimarafushi
  • Aas Ibrahim, 32, Hiri, Th. Thimarafushi

All five were taken before the court for their remand hearing on Sunday. According to the police, the court remanded Ashraf, Aas and Rauf in custody of the police for 10 days, Ameen for seven days, and Shahudhee for five.

The police said on Saturday that the person injured in the incident was discharged after treatment at the local health center.

A Thimarafushi resident told Sun that the incident had been a fight between two young men in the island. The source reported that one of them had stabbed the other in his back with a knife during the fight.

The police have released little detail regarding the incident, but said the case remained under investigation.

Records show the police received close to 700 reports of assault so far this year.
