The police had reported that the teen motorcyclist had his license suspended on December 21 for a violation of the Land Transport Act.
The teen’s father, Ibrahim Shiham told Sun that his son had been stopped by police on December 21 for driving a motorcycle with a modified silencer. He said that the vehicle did not belong to his son, but to one of his friends.
He also said that while the police served papers notifying him that the vehicle was being towed, he was not given any document stating that his license had been suspended.
Shiham also pleaded with the public not to spread unfounded rumors blaming his son, and to pray for his recovery.
The police said they were found such dangerous accidents “concerning”, and were using a lot of resources to prevent such accidents and ensure road safety.
The police also said they would be conducting an internal investigation for possible negligence from the police officer involved in the crash.
