Two people injured after speedboat hits harbour entrance

Two people were injured on Sunday after a speedboat crashed into the southern harbour entrance of Male’ City. 

Police said they received a report at 3:17 pm that a speedboat had collided with the harbour entrance on the south side of the city. 

A video circulating on social media shows a white speedboat crashing into the harbour entrance earlier this evening. 

According to police, the speedboat, which had 20 people onboard, capsized in the incident. Two people sustained injuries, though none were serious. The vessel suffered multiple damages.

Police said the case is under investigation. 

Several areas of Male’ experienced flooding this evening, including the newly opened parking zone on Boduthakurufaanu Magu. The Maldives Meteorological Service had earlier forecast rain in parts of the country until 6:00 pm. 

The Met Office has also advised the public to remain vigilant during the ongoing school holidays, which end this week.
