One injured in car-motorcycle crash on road linking bridge and airport

A car and a motorcycle were involved in a dangerous collision on the road linking the Sinamalé Bridge to Velana International Airport (VIA) on Thursday morning.

Maldives Police Service said the accident, which took place near the traffic lights at Velana International Airport, was reported to authorities at approximately 7:38am this morning.

The motorcyclist sustained injuries in the collision and was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment.

"The individual is currently receiving treatment at the hospital," a police spokesperson confirmed.

The Police have not released further information regarding the severity or nature of the injuries.

An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The road leading to the airport is a busy route that frequently experiences heavy traffic, where similar accidents have occurred in the past. Authorities have therefore urged motorists to exercise caution and remain alert while travelling through the area.
