Fenaka Corporation has reported that it has hired over 1,000 staff and dismissed around 400 employees since the current administration took office.
The company faced significant corruption allegations during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration and was in a financially precarious position, burdened with substantial debts.
At the end of former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration, Fenaka had approximately 2,000 employees. This number increased by more than 1,000 by the end of Solih’s term, with accusations that the company had been leveraged for political purposes.
Sharing information under the Right to Information Act, Fenaka said it had hired a total of 1,392 new staff as of October this year since the current administration assumed office.
The company explained that the new hires were necessary due to the need for technical experts in certain areas.
During the same period, Fenaka also dismissed 404 staff.
The company declined to provide details regarding the salaries and allowances of the new hires.
