Maldivian arrested in Bangkok for drug trafficking

A Maldivian has been arrested in Thailand’s capital Bangkok on suspicions of drug trafficking.

Thai media, citing Police, said a significant drug bust was made that saw the seizure of newly three kilograms of mephedrone hidden inside a protein supplement container that arrived from the UK via courier.

A Maldivian was arrested at a courier facility in Bangkok while attempting to collect the illegal package.

No further details regarding the suspect have been disclosed. Thai media reported that the suspect’s identity has been withheld as Police are continuing to pursue other individuals linked to the drug network.

Mephedrone is classed as a ‘Category 1’ narcotic in Thailand.
