Two youths arrested with drugs from Hulhumale’

Two Maldivian youths were arrested from Hulhumale’ on Sunday, in a counter-narcotics operations run by the Hulhumale’ Special Enforcement.

According to the police, the two were arrested near the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) bridge in Hulhumale’ Phase I.

They were identified as:

• Aminath Rushda, 21, Husnooge, L. Isdhoo
• Ismail Izhan, 25, Handhuvareege, F. Magoodhoo

The duo was arrested on suspicion of possession, use and trafficking of narcotics.

According to police, a subsequent search uncovered 400.03 grams of a substance suspected of being narcotics and three beedi believed to contain narcotics.

The duo was presented before a court on Monday. Izhan was remanded in custody of the police for 15 days, while Rushda was remanded for 10 days.

The case is under investigation by the police.

The latest arrests come amid a rise in apprehension of youths in drug-related cases.
