Nine Bangladeshis arrested from Male’ in drug bust

The Police have arrested nine individuals in Malé on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking and sale. 

The arrests were carried out as part of a targeted operation conducted jointly by the Police Drug Enforcement Department and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence. During the operation, which was carried out last Tuesday, authorities raided a guesthouse in Malé and discovered substances suspected to be narcotics.

All nine individuals arrested in connection with the case are Bangladeshi nationals. They have been identified as Tawhidul Islam, 35; Monir Bepari, 37; Jakir Munshi, 46; MD Abu Zaber Pramanik, 37; and MD Usman, 23. Mohammad Bablu Ali, 34; MD Raihan, 32; Affranul Hog Ashik, 34; and Mohammad Rakib Hossain, 30, were also taken into custody.

Police stated that, following the completion of the requisite legal procedures, all nine individuals were handed over to Maldives Immigration. The investigation into the case remains ongoing.

There has been a notable increase in the number of foreign nationals being arrested on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking, with a substantial proportion of such cases involving Bangladeshi nationals.
