Criminal Court extends remand of Nahil after seizure of 1.7 kg of drugs

The Criminal Court on Tuesday extended the remand of Mohamed Nahil, who was arrested with nearly two kilograms of suspected drugs and 230 vape cartridges.

Police arrested Nahil on September 3 during an operation in which two others were also taken into custody:  

• Hussain Shavin (26), Sunny Villa/K. Huraa  

• Maryam Isha Ashraf (21), Villa/Th. Thimarafushi

The Criminal Court initially remanded Shavin and Isha Ashraf for 15 days, while Nahil was remanded for five days. The court has now extended Nahil’s remand by 10 days, citing evidence submitted to support continued custody.

Police said the three were arrested on a warrant for possession, use and trafficking of drugs.

According to the police report, officers searched M. Bohdhage and found a bowl containing suspected powdered drugs on a table in the living room. They also observed playing cards commonly used for substance abuse and a mobile phone placed on top of a jar to illuminate the bowl of powder.

Police said Shavin told officers he was staying at the apartment at the request of a friend, and that he had been given nine bottles and “a bit” of meth by the same friend.

A further search uncovered a large quantity of suspected liquor bottles, additional drugs, vape cartridges containing suspected drugs, empty liquor containers, and devices and materials used for drug packing and trafficking.

Police said Nahil’s urine test returned positive for THC and CAT.

In total, officers recovered 1.7 kilograms of suspected drugs, 230 vape cartridges, 26 bottles of vape flavour, and one bottle of liquor from the apartment.

Nahil’s extended remand expires on Friday, 18 September.
