These courses are part of the agreement between the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources and MNU in December last year, which the university said would announce this August.

Fisheries Ministry earlier declared it will establish fisheries colleges across MNU campuses in the atolls.

Establishment of a fisheries college to enhance academic opportunities in the field is a key pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, which he declared at the 43rd Fishermen’s Day commemorative ceremony.

Despite fisheries being one of the oldest economic activities in the Maldives, few attain higher education in the field.
