MNU signs with CINEC Campus to strengthen cooperation in maritime education

Maldives National University (MNU), on Monday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sri Lanka’s CINEC Campus to strengthen cooperation in maritime education.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at MNU, with Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz signing on behalf of the university and Dr. Sujeeva Polgampala representing CINEC Campus.

Captain Mohamed Zaid, Dean of MNU’s Faculty of Maritime Studies, told Sun that the primary objective of the agreement is to further enhance maritime education at both institutions.

Noting the ongoing transformation of maritime curricula worldwide, Zaid said the sector is undergoing rapid modernization.

“Given these developments, it is essential that our (maritime) curricula are updated accordingly. This is a sector that will significantly benefit the Maldives,” he elaborated.

He further explained that the agreement will facilitate cooperation between the two institutions in developing human resources for the maritime sector and expanding joint research initiatives.

He also expressed hope that the partnership would further strengthen ties between the two institutions, reflecting the close bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

CINEC Campus is recognized as the largest private maritime faculty in Sri Lanka. With state-of-the-art laboratories and extensive facilities, it is regarded as one of the region’s leading centers for maritime education.
