A hearing‑impaired student has completed his bachelor’s degree for the first time in the history of the Maldives National University (MNU).

The graduate is Ismail Rahil, who completed a Bachelor of Information Technology.

This is the first time a hearing‑impaired student has completed a programme of this level at the National University.

The Higher Education Ministry issued a congratulatory post on social media, noting that Minister Dr. Ismail Shafiu had extended his congratulations.

Following the announcement, many people highlighted that Rahil’s achievement shows hearing impairment is not a barrier to education. His success is being celebrated as a source of hope and encouragement for other students with disabilities pursuing higher education.
