Vinares accident: fleeing suspects arrested, victim stable

The car and several bikes near the impact area had been damaged.

The suspects in the out-of-control car that crashed into a motorbike near Vinares Flats in Hulhumale' Phase II on Wednesday, have been arrested, Maldives Police Service confirms.

The victim, who was sent flying and crashing into the ground from the force of the impact, is currently stabilizing according to his family.

Maldives Police Service confirmed that arrested the 25-year-old driver via a court order. The authority also arrested the two passengers, one of whom aged 33 years.

The accident was captured on CCTV, which showed the car had veered out of control as it made a hard turn into the road, hits the grassy road divider and rammed into the idle biker who had stopped on the side of the road to pick up his phone.

The car had taken down a tree on the side of the road before veering to a stop on the pavement.

The victim's family reported that some of the bones in his face had been broken, but was otherwise in stable condition.

The 27-year-old victim, a local male, had stopped to pick up a call from his mother. 

He was treated at the emergency ward of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and has since been transferred to the general ward.

"Doctors said they can tell the exact degree of injuries after a CT scan," a member of the victim's family spoke with 'Sun'.
