Maldivian arrested with drugs at the airport

A Maldivian man who attempted to smuggle drugs into the Maldives by concealing it in his thighs has been arrested and remanded in custody for 30 days.

The man, a 36-year-old, was arrested at the airport. He was presented before the Criminal Court for a remand hearing on Thursday during which Judge Shaffath Habeeb ordered his remand in custody for 30 days.

As per the court order, he was stopped and searched at the airport based on a tip. A package containing drugs that were fixed around his right thigh was discovered during the search. The drugs had come back positive for heroin when tested.

The court order also states a chatlog related to drugs was discovered during a sweep of his phone.

Although the court order read that a large quantity of drugs was discovered on the man, it did not specify the exact weight.

His remand is set to expire on July 13th
