The government has stated that only political appointees who have resigned from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have been dismissed from their posts.

Rumors have begun circulating regarding the dismissal of some political appointees. Commenting on the rumors, the President’s Office’s Spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed said MDP informs the government of the resignation of any political appointees.

“Such individuals are immediately dismissed from their post once their resignation is informed by MDP,” he added.

Miuvaan said there was no point in letting individuals appointed to government posts on MDP’s slots keep their jobs after their resignation from the party.

Many senior government officials have been dismissed from their posts throughout this year after they spoke out against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. They include former minister at the President’s Office Mohamed Shifaz (Shippe).

He was replaced by MDP’s Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey).
