Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, on Sunday, described the political appointees in the government who have been dismissed from their posts as capable individuals knowing how to implement Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) manifesto.

Nasheed, in a tweet, said Environment Ministry’s Senior Executive Director Ahmed Hamdhan, Home Ministry’s Senior Policy Director Aishath Alaika Adnaan, and Environment Ministry’s Deputy Minister Mohamed Ansaar have been dismissed from their posts.

He underscored that all three individuals had undertaken hard work to ensure MDP’s election for governance. Nasheed, describing the three individuals as posts as capable individuals knowing how to implement MDP’s manifesto, said their dismissal was subjecting Maldivian citizens to a loss.

Commenting on the matter, the  President’s Office’s Spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed said MDP informs the government of the resignation of any political appointees.

“Such individuals are immediately dismissed from their post once their resignation is informed by MDP,” he added.

Miuvaan said there was no point in letting individuals appointed to government posts on MDP’s slots keep their jobs after their resignation from the party.

Many senior government officials have been dismissed from their posts throughout this year after they spoke out against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. They include former minister at the President’s Office Mohamed Shifaz (Shippe).

He was replaced by MDP’s Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey).
