The state-owned Fenaka Corporation has been awarded a project to build 25-ton ice plants in five islands; HA. Dhidhdhoo, GDh. Rathafandhoo, AA. Rasdhoo, Dh. Meedhoo, and L. Maamendhoo.

The contract was signed by Fenaka Corporation’s Managing Director Ahmed Saeed and Fisheries Ministry’s Director General Ahmed Yameen on Sunday.

The company is required to build the ice plants in eight months.

The project to build ice plants in the islands is financed by the Saudi Fund for Development.

Fisheries Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan said the project was awarded to Fenaka after two previous attempts at open tenders failed to produce bids that meet the criteria.

He expressed confidence Fenaka will complete the project in time.

He also said the Fisheries Ministry was fully committed to delivering the pledges made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.

Hussain said the administration had already built ice plants in several islands and were building more in other.

He said the construction of ice plants in the five remaining islands will result in the realization of the administration’s pledge.

He thanked the Saudi Fund for financing the project.
