Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has condemned the recent derogatory remarks by two top officials from India’s ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), regarding Prophet Mohamed and the religion of Islam.

BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma had made the derogatory remarks regarding Prophet Mohamed during a TV debate, while spokesman Naveen Jindal had made derogatory remarks regarding Islam on social media.

Sharma was suspended while Jindal was expelled from BJP.

In a statement on Tuesday, MDA condemned the derogatory remarks by the BJP officials in the harshest terms.

“Prophet Mohamed was the holiest and most righteous person sent to this world by Almighty Allah. All attempts to slander him is a war against the very heart and spirit of us Muslims,” said MDA.

MDA’s leader, MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has also issued his own statement condemning the derogatory remarks.

Siyam said that the Indian government should not allow for anyone to abuse Islam, and that he found remarks that incite hatred against Islam unacceptable.

Maldivian government issued a statement condemning the remarks by BJP officials on Monday. Individual parties, including the opposition PPM-PNC coalition, JP, AP, and MNP have also issued statements condemning the remarks, and so have multiple Muslim nations.
