MDA sweeps all seats in Bandidhoo and Kudafari

Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has secured all seats in Dh. Bandidhoo and N. Kudafari in the local council elections and women’s development committee elections held on Saturday.

Preliminary results show the MDA candidates secured seats in Bandidhoo with a margin of over 70 percent.

Historically, all council seats in Bandidhoo have always gone to candidates endorsed by MDA’s president, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.

Preliminary results from other islands in Dh. Atoll show that all seats in Rinbudhoo went to ruling People’s National Congress (PNC). Meanwhile, all seats in Hulhudheli, except for one in the women’s development committee, went to MDA.

In Meedhoo, the MDA contested six seats and won the seat of council president and one seat at the women’s development committee. The rest of the seats went to PNC.

In Kudahuvadhoo, the seats went to MDA and main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). MDA won the seat of women’s development committee president as well as the council seat designated for women, while MDP won the rest.

And in Maaenboodhoo, MDA won one of the two women’s development committee seats it contested.

The MDA also won two seats in N. Fodhdhoo, and all seats in N. Kudafari.
