Former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has been discharged from Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

Yameen, who has been ordered to detention pending the outcome of his money laundering trial, was hospitalized for observation at the instruction of his cardiologist on March 4.

It is the former President’s second stint at the hospital since his arrest, and follows 24-hour hospitalization at IGMH for a body checkup on February 20.

Media official at IGMH reports Yameen was discharged from the hospital at 9:30 am this Thursday.

Maldives Correctional Service was not immediately available for comment.

Yameen was arrested under orders from the Criminal Court on February 18, after the State prosecution presented evidence he attempted to tamper with witness testimony by offering bribes to State witnesses in the case.

Yameen was charged with money laundering and issuing false statements to State institutions following Maldives Police Service’s investigation into the USD 1 million - believed to be embezzled funds in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) scam – deposited to his account at the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) by SOF Private Limited.

The arrest warrant issued against him has been appealed on his behalf at the High Court.
