EyeCare Hospital took part in the senior citizens’ event organised by the Villimale' Police last Friday to mark International Day of Older Persons.
The EyeCare team provided free eye screening services to older residents of Villimale'. The hospital said the programme offered an important opportunity to engage with the community and highlight the need for regular eye checks as people age.
EyeCare noted that maintaining healthy eyesight is essential for seniors to remain independent, carry out daily tasks comfortably and enjoy time with family. The hospital said older individuals face a higher risk of eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration.
EyeCare also urged people living with diabetes to pay special attention to their eye health. Many eye conditions develop without symptoms in their early stages, the hospital said, adding that changes in vision should not be dismissed as normal ageing but checked by a doctor.
