Captain’s license seized after hit-and-run boat found in Hulhumale' Bay

Police have seized the captain’s license of the boat involved in the dangerous collision between a speedboat and another vessel near Male's official jetty on the night of the 9th of last month.

The incident occurred when a speedboat and a boat collided, after which the boat fled the scene without stopping.

Five people were injured in the accident and were treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Police said one side of the speedboat Legion 1 was severely damaged, with its seating area also impacted.

In a statement on Monday, police said they are investigating the incident, which took place outside the Izzudheen Jetty.

The boat was located stranded in Hulhumale' Bay at 17:52 hrs on Saturday, according to police.

Officers searched the vessel and questioned its captain in connection with the hit-and-run. Police said the captain’s license was confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation, but did not reveal any details.

The case is being further investigated by the service.

Maritime accidents of this nature have been increasing in recent months.
