PNF member among three arrested over violence during PNC’s internal elections in Hulhumale'

A member of the People’s National Front (PNF) has been arrested in connection with the violent altercation that broke out in Hulhumale' during the ruling PNC’s internal elections on Saturday.

Last Saturday night, a group of people entered Kaamil Didi School (KPS) while votes were being counted and damaged school property. A total of three people have been arrested in connection with the incident. A 23-year-old man and two 24-year-olds were taken into custody under a court order.

One of the suspects is a member of President Abdulla Yameen’s PNF, while the other two belong to the ruling PNC. All three were remanded for 15 days. Their remand orders were issued on Monday.

Videos circulating on social media showed two groups attacking each other with chairs. Police attempted to control the situation, but the clashes continued for an extended period.

Police are investigating the incident.
