Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been parking its buses on the side of the road, after accusing the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) of seizing the parking zone allocated to them in Hulhumale’.

MTCC had been parking the buses it uses for public transport in the empty lot or parking zone that lies between the ferry terminal and the local market in Hulhumale’. Before the launch of Male’-Hulhumale’ bus services, the lot was used as a parking zone for motorcycles. But after the launch of bus services, the area was used as a parking zone for MTCC’s buses.

It has been around three weeks since the lot was vacated, and MTCC has been parking its buses on the side of the road.

MTCC’s spokesperson was unresponsive to messages seeking an official comment regarding the reason for the move.

But Sun has been informed through credible sources that MTCC began parking its buses on the side of the road after HDC ordered the MTCC to vacate the area, informing the company that it has been allocated to the Boat Association.

MTCC was not allocated an alternative space to park its buses.

However, HDC claims it did not seize any land from the MTCC.

The lack of parking space has become a serious issue in the heavily populated Hulhumale’, with vehicles parked illegally along the sides of many of the island’s main roads, creating blind spots which have resulted in dangerous accidents.
