One of the two people who sustained multiple fractures on Saturday in an accident on the Laamu link road has been transferred to Male’ for surgery.
The accident, involving a car and a motorcycle, was reported to the police at around 07:03 pm Saturday. According to police, both vehicles were headed in the north to southern direction when they collided.
The accident resulted in injuries to two people on the motorcycle – who the police initially identified as 44-year-old men.
But Mohamed Abdul Samad, the director-general at the Gan Regional Hospital where they were taken to, identified the men injured in the crash as a 44-year-old and a 48-year-old.
According to Abdul Samad, the 44-year-old, who sustained two fractures to his right leg, was transferred to Male’ on Sunday morning for surgery to repair the damage.
Meanwhile, the 48-year-old also sustained a leg fracture and multiple abrasions, including to his head.
He was discharged later on Saturday night after his head CT scan came back clear, said Abdul Samad.
He said that the vitals of both patients were stable.
The two vehicles involved in the crash had sustained massive damages from the impact. The 62-year-old man driving the car escaped unharmed.
The accident is under investigation by the police.
