According to the Maldives Meteorology, the cyclonic circulation located far east of Maldives in southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to cause swell surges in the northern and central atolls of the Maldives.

The weather forecast authority said that this cyclonic circulation is likely to move westwards, and is expected to cause formation of intense convective clouds over the Maldives area.

MET Office said that the Maldives may experience occasional heavy rain showers and thunderstorms over a fairly widespread area of the country from January 13 to 18, 2025. The authority added that winds are expected to strengthen with rough seas over the area.

MET has advised the public to take necessary precautions and remain up to date with the authority’s weather warnings.

Recently Male’ City and some of the islands experienced significant flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Following the floods in Male’ City, several houses and shops sustained damages while residents of 44 houses were provided temporary shelter after the heavy rainfall last Friday.
