Scattered showers with few thunderstorms expected nationwide as monsoon rains persist

The national weather agency forecasts scattered rain with a few thunderstorms across the Maldives for Wednesday, as monsoon rains continue.

According to the daily weather forecast issued by the Maldives Meteorological Service, it expects the country to continue to experience scattered rain with a few thunderstorms.

The agency also forecasts southwest/westerly winds of 5 – 15 miles per hour in the south, and west/northwesterly winds of 10 – 20 miles per hour elsewhere.

Winds may gust to 35 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be slight becoming moderate during showers in southern atolls and moderate becoming rough during showers elsewhere.

Waves are expected to rise to the height of 2-4 feet in the south and 6 feet elsewhere.

The continued bad weather comes as authorities continue to search for two Indian soldiers who went missing on Friday, after a landing craft that set off from K. Thilafushi sank off K. Gaafaru.

The current spell of bad weather is attributed to the intensification of the Hulhangu Monsoon, which is expected to result in rougher, possibly unusually rougher seas.

Authorities urge everyone, especially seafarers, to be cautious.
