Aminath Namza, a deputy minister at the Local Government Ministry, was appointed as the chairperson of Public Service Media (PSM) on Monday, a day after the state broadcasting service received a new managing director.

The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) announced Namza’s appointment in a post on X on Monday afternoon.

The PCB also confirmed the appointment of Ibrahim Nasreen (Nattu) as the managing director.

The position of chairperson of PSM had been vacant since the end of the tenure of Ibrahim Hilmy in January last year.

Namza had previously served as the head of foreign relations at the Education Ministry during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.

She also worked for years as a presenter for PSM.

The appointment comes after Nasreen replaced Mohamed Saeed, who stepped down as the head of the state broadcaster last week.

Nasreen is the third official to be appointed to head the company within the span of a little over a year.

His predecessor, Mohamed Saeed, tendered his resignation on December 18 after a short five-month tenure without specifying a reason.

Saeed’s predecessor, Zeena Zahir’s tenure had also been short-lived. Appointed as the PSM’s managing director in November last year, Zeena resigned on August 23.

She did not specify a reason either.
